Telemundo’s ‘Selena’ Sweeps Report.

Telemundo concluded the second week of the February 2001 sweep period (1/29-2/25/01) with the ratings record-breaking performance of Cinemundo Premier’s special engagement of “Selena” (Sunday 8PM-11PM), starring Jennifer Lopez. Telemundo’s movie premiere was seen by an average of 927,000 adults 18-49, capturing 44% of viewing versus the competition. Compared to February ‘00’s time period performance, “Selena” more than doubled delivery of adults 18-49 (increase of 122%).

Telemundo’s Saturday night concert presentation (Sat 9PM-11PM) of Mexican music legend Vicente Fernandez, attracted 37% of adults 18-49 viewers against the competition. The “king of the rancheros,” as he is known throughout the world, was seen by 632,000 adults 18-49 – nearly tripling the audience of the time period from February ’00 (+173%), and increasing the adults 18-49 ratings delivery by 31% compared to January ’01.

In weekday primetime, “Betty La Fea” (M-F 8PM-9PM) continues the uptrend by adding an average of 49,000 adult 18-49 viewers every night from week-to-week in the current February sweeps. In fact, all of Telemundo’s primetime novelas posted week-to-week growth in delivery of the key adult 18-49 viewers, resulting in a 12% total increase in adults 18-49 ratings to Telemundo’s original primetime novela block (M-F 7PM-11PM).

“Laura en America” (M-F 4PM-5PM) increased 3% week-to-week among adults 18-49 ratings. Compared to one year ago, “Laura” has increased its adults 18-49 ratings by an amazing 127%; the competition has seen a 13% loss in audience in this time period compared to February ’00. The award-winning current affairs show “Ocurrio Asi” (M-F 5PM-6PM), welcomed new co-anchor Candela Ferro in January who has been embraced by viewers, as evident in the ratings. In the current sweep, “Ocurrio Asi” is up 4% week-to-week among adults 18-49, delivering ratings 56% higher than last February ’00. The competition is down 13% year-to-year.
