Telemundo Boston to launch Local Newscast

Telemundo Boston / WNEU announced it will be launching the station’s first-ever live local newscasts later this summer, delivering the Spanish-speaking community throughout the Boston area the most up-to-date local news, weather and information available. The station will add 60 minutes of local news each weekday during late summer 2015 and will be hiring Spanish-speaking journalists to support the news launches.

“Spanish-speaking viewers in the Boston area have been underserved with local news for a very long time so we are proud to deliver what they want and deserve: best-in-class journalism with live and locally-produced newscasts that report the information that they care about,” said Mike St. Peter, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Telemundo Boston. “We’re looking to hire talented Spanish-speaking journalists who are committed to providing our Hispanic communities with the information they need, and are ready to join in this unique opportunity and work for a company that is strongly dedicated to serving our communities with best-in-class journalism.”

The two live, half-hour newscasts are scheduled to launch weeknights (Monday to Friday) at 6 PM and 11 PM and will deliver up-to-the-minute local news and information, weather, sports, entertainment and community news. Co-located with necn, the largest 24-hour regional news network in the United States, Telemundo Boston will also debut a new state-of-the-art newsroom and news set featuring the latest technologies and enhancements. Additionally, the station’s on-air newscasts will feature new on-screen graphics and visual designs to complement the station’s robust online and digital presence.

To support the additional local newscasts, Telemundo Boston will hire Spanish-speaking journalists to fill the roles of anchor, meteorologist, reporter and producer. The new employees will be part of NBCUniversal, a leading global media and entertainment company, and will enjoy a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. The positions will be based out of Newton, Massachusetts and will work closely with NBCU-owned station necn, to fully leverage the stations’ collective strengths and resources to better serve viewers – both Spanish- and English-speaking – throughout the Greater Boston area.
