NBCLatino.com launches
June 3, 2012
NBC News announced that it has launched NBCLatino.com — a new Hispanic news and lifestyle website, leveraging the resources and platforms of NBC News, including “TODAY,” “Nightly News,” MSNBC, msnbc.com, as well as its sister network Telemundo. The site is focused on English-language news, information and lifestyle content, Hispanic angles on big general market stories, as well as Hispanic perspectives and opinion pieces.
“It’s important for NBC News to look for growth opportunities outside of broadcast news, and to continue to develop these targeted ventures that help us reach new audiences and are also a natural extension of how we operate,” said Capus. “We see NBC Latino as a huge advantage to the overall news network because of our ability to tap into and share their story pipeline with our other programs and properties.”
Chris Peña is the Executive Editor of NBC Latino, and oversees a staff of bilingual writers and producers at NBC’s headquarters in New York City. He also manages the sharing of resources from other NBC News bureaus around the world and Telemundo, in addition to a team of regular contributors. Leveraging the talents of other NBC News journalists, the site will include special reports from Natalie Morales, Tom Llamas, Gabe Gutierrez, Miguel Almaguer, and more. Editorially, NBCLatino.com features lifestyle categories such as Family and Food, as well as Education, Politics and News, and will regularly profile Latinos who are creating positive change in their communities and beyond.
“The goal of NBC Latino is to take Hispanic news beyond the usual conversation, toward something more inspired, empowered and energized; to tell and reflect the Hispanic-American story with authentic voices, and make NBC the brand of choice for Hispanics across mobile, online and TV,” said Peña.
