P&G and Olympic Taekwondo athlete Diana Lopez give Thanks to Moms with ‘LA FALDA BIEN PUESTA’.
April 10, 2012
Procter & Gamble, a Worldwide Olympic Partner, and its Orgullosa program have partnered with Olympic Taekwondo athlete Diana Lopez for the “Thank You Mom” (Gracias Mamá) campaign, which celebrates powerful moms with “la falda bien puesta”1 for all they do for their children.
The “Thank You Mom” campaign is a P&G global initiative for the London 2012 Olympic Games, which shows how the company and its brands and programs, like Orgullosa, are helping improve everyday life for moms. Through its participation in this campaign, Orgullosa recognizes the dedication and effort that women showcase in the multiple roles they play not just as moms, but also as cheerleaders, counselors, and supporters among many others, and celebrates their accomplishments and dreams.
As part of the “Thank You Mom” celebrations, Lopez honored her mom Ondina Lopez for her hard work and efforts to nourish her athletic success at a special event in New York yesterday, where more than 800 U.S. Olympian and Paralympian moms received a gift to help offset travel costs to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“I am very proud of my mom and consider her the most courageous woman I know,” said Lopez. “With perseverance, sacrifice and hard work, she raised a family of Olympic athletes and gave us the tools and the spirit to succeed. That is something that my brothers and I will always be thankful for.”
“Joining the Orgullosa campaign allows me to honor her and all the moms who exemplify what it means to be a ‘mujer con la falda bien puesta™’ and who tackle on the hardest, but definitely the best job in the world,” added Lopez.
The youngest of four, Lopez started her training at an early age with her brothers Steven and Mark alongside, and her eldest brother, Jean, as their instructor. While she followed her siblings’ example, Lopez credits her mother for the unconditional support, love and inspiration that encouraged her to pursue her taekwondo training, going as far as scheduling her laundry process so that she could run the dryer in the garage where the children practiced in order to keep them warm.
“These moms are the driving force behind the Olympic dream, and we are thrilled to be able to support them on this wonderful journey, so they can enjoy in person their children’s accomplishments,” said Valentina Sanchez, Orgullosa Brand Manager. “Through ‘Gracias Mamá,’ we proudly continue our commitment to the community to touch and improve their lives every day.”
As part of its gift to moms of Team USA athletes, P&G will also create the P&G Family Home in London, a private and secure “home away from home” where moms of Olympians can spend time with their athletes in a relaxed, family-friendly environment. P&G will offer services from its wide range portfolio of industry-leading brands, including Pampers®, Tide®, Pantene®, Crest®, Duracell® and Gillette®. P&G will announce more details about the P&G Family Home later this month.
To extend the celebration and support to all moms, P&G and Orgullosa have created a “Gracias Mamá” digital app so people everywhere can create and share a personalized message to give their moms a big “thank you.” Visit Gracias Mamá to create and see tributes to moms across the U.S. and join P&G and Orgullosa on their mission to thank moms.
