Vme premieres El Barco.
August 16, 2011
El Barco, Spain’s top series for 2011, comes to the U.S. on Vme premiering on Wednesday, September 22 at 10:00pm (ET). El Barco (The Boat) is filled with adventure, mystery, love and drama as it chronicles the complicated situation of the students and crew of the training ship, Polar Star.
Shortly after the crew and students set sail for a two month training journey, there is a global cataclysm caused by a particle accelerator accident in Geneva ( Switzerland ) causing the continents to sink to the bottom of the Earth and completely flood the earth with water. With the world awash in water, the crew and students seem to be the only survivors and they find that they have to rethink everything they have known so far – leading to this richly entertaining adventure depicting a post-apocalyptic drama rife with action, wit, and love.
With enigmatic twists and turns reminiscent of “Lost,” El Barco captivated audiences in Spain earlier this year and launched waves of social media chatter dissecting each new episode and stunning revelation. The series introduces strange creatures, a mystery airplane, life-and-death choices, plots of mutiny, love and betrayal – all while the stranded passengers discover their fate… and realize why there is no land in sight.
El Barco is also one of Spain’s most ambitious new productions. Produced by Globomedia, El Barco is shot entirely at sea on a vessel of more than 50 meters in natural environment and natural lighting. These natural effects bring a realistic quality to the drama that leaves audiences feeling connected to the sea and these characters.
El Barco airs on Wednesday nights at 10:00pm (ET), with encore presentations on Saturdays at 11:00pm (ET).
