Cielo Rojo Red Carpet in Mexico City.

A constellation of stars could be seen walking the spectacular and glamorous red carpet in west Mexico City, celebrating the debut of the new Azteca America telenovela Cielo Rojo. Internationally known actors such as Edith González, Mauricio Islas, Regina Torné, Hugo Stiglitz, Andrea Noli, Aura Cristina Geithner, and Alejandra Lazcano, among others, were in attendance kicking off the lavish premiere of the telenovela which debuts concurrently in Mexico and the United States.

In an exclusive interview, “Telenovela Queen” Edith González, who makes her Azteca America debut with this series, said she felt happy to portray a character as important as Alma and shared that “Cielo Rojo is an intense and passionate telenovela. A lot of work and dedication went into making it. Every day, the cast and crew strived to give their best to create a high-quality program. Not only that, I identify very much with my character – a woman who is strong, courageous, and a fighter… Alma begins as a soft and sweet woman until she ends up in prison. After serving a twenty-year sentence for a crime she did not commit, she becomes a hardened woman. But she does not seek revenge, only justice.”

Throughout the interview, Edith González appeared happy and excited to participate in a long-awaited project like this important production: “Azteca has been very kind to me, offering me a great deal of support and I feel moved. I am truly very fortunate and feel very happy to be here at Azteca, my new home.”

For his part, Mauricio Islas, who last year starred as Emiliano in La Loba, highlighted the joy he felt working with an exceptional and disciplined actress like Edith González. He also noted the importance of airing the telenovela in both the United States and Mexico, “This is a new challenge for me. We will be presenting a marvelous project that is very different from what we normally see. Cielo Rojo comes at a good time for Spanish-language television… I only ask that viewers let us into their homes and their hearts….”

Cielo Rojo tells the story of Alma (Edith González) and Andrés (Mauricio Islas), who swear eternal love to each other; nonetheless, they find themselves separated after a whirlwind of intrigue and deceit. When they meet again, they try to escape together, but tragedy keeps them apart after Alma accidentally kills her husband. Twenty years later, Alma leaves prison under the cloud of Andrés’ mother (Regina Torné), surrounded by guilt, lies, and a series of missteps, but destiny will bring her closer to Andrés through their respective children, whose passionate love for each other is forbidden.

Cielo Rojo features a strong young cast that includes Alejandra Lazcano and the debut of Lambada García, as well as excellent international actors such as Andrea Noli, Alberto Casanova, and Colombian actress Aura Cristina Geithner making her return to television.

Directed by Rafael Uriostegui, this telenovela was shot on location at four spectacular haciendas in Mexico City and the Mexican states of Querétaro and Hidalgo.
