Jeter named 2011 Player Citizen by LatinoBaseball.com

LatinoBaseball.com presented The 22nd Annual Hispanic Achievement Awards, honoring a league of twenty New York City public school students who have demonstrated above average scholastic ability, citizenship, leadership and promise for the future, during an on-field ceremony at Yankee Stadium.

Yankee front man Derek Jeter was also recognized and awarded with the 2011 LatinoBaseball.com “Player Citizen Award”, for his commitment to the advancement of underserved youth through his foundation, Turn 2 Foundation.

The “Player Citizen Award” is presented annually to a major league player who combined community service with excellence on and off the field. Previous awardees include Roberson Cano (2010), amongst others.

The presentation was made at home-plate by Ralph Paniagua; CEO of R. Paniagua Inc. and participating sponsors Isabel Vasquez; Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, Dr. Evelyn Montanez; New York Presbyterian Hospital and Art Jackson; Pay-O-Matic / Western Union.

Derek Jeter personally congratulated the elated group of students prior to taking on the Toronto Blue Jays.

The event was presented by The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, Pay-O-Matic, Western Union and New York Presbyterian, and co-sponsored by Cibao Meats and Bustelo Coffee.
