Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas brings Ninas Mal to the U.S. Market.

Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas (formerly MTV Tr3s) announces the premiere of MTV Latin America’s primetime sensation, Ninas Mal. The MTV Latin America import drew in 12 million viewers across Latin America and held court at the #1 spot among cable channels (non-kid channels) in Mexico and Colombia within the 12-24 demographic. Tr3s will debut the Mexican feature film of the same name (2pm EST), the “Making of Ninas Mal” hosted by Mexican pop star Belinda (4:30pm EST), and a sneak peek episode (5pm EST) on Saturday, December 11th. Ninas Mal will officially premiere on the network in January 2011.

“The show’s MTV spin on the traditional novela has been a smash in Latin America and we’re totally fired up to bring it to the US,” said Charlie Singer, SVP of Content and Creative for Tr3s. “Its creative attitude fuses Latin American and US approaches, making it a perfect property for our bi-cultural US audience.”

Inspired by the Mexican film of the same name, Ninas Mal tells the story of three high-society girls who challenge the mold set by their parents. Hoping for a change, the families send the girls to the only remaining charm school in the city; however, the experience brings the girls together, putting them to the test and increasing their rebelliousness. The novela was produced by MTV Latin America and Sony Pictures and quickly became a viewer-favorite, sitting at #1 among the 12-24 year-old demo across all cable channels (non-kids channels) in Latin America. The cast includes both established and emerging talent from across Latin America, including Carmen Aub (Mexico), Isabel Burr (Mexico) and Jessica San Juan (Colombia), who in addition participated in the music video for the series theme song “Lolita” performed by Mexican pop star Belinda.
