Rocking Out at Planeta Terra Festival.

Both online and in-person, all eyes were on the Planeta Terra Festival this past Saturday, where bands including the Smashing Pumpkins and Pavement took the stage in front of an audience of over 20,000 people. The all-night, annual music festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, hit record attendance numbers, supplemented by 3.8 million viewers experiencing the concert via a live stream on terra.com.

The festival is hosted by Terra, the global digital media company and bilingual content producer with a presence in 18 countries, including the United States where it serves the growing Hispanic community. The robust lineup also featured Girl Talk., Phoenix, Of Montreal, Passion Pit, Mika, Empire of the Sun, Hot Chip, Yeasayer, Mombojó, Novos Paulistas, República, Hurtmold and Holger.

Planeta Terra continued the environmentally-friendly tradition launched at the 2009 concert, which last year resulted in zero trash and the recycling of more than 2,000 tons of paper and aluminum. The environmental coup demonstrated that concerts, typically major waste-emitters, can easily “go green” when producers and attendees join forces. 17,000 concert-goers attended the 2009 festival. Numbers related to the 2010 project will be released next month.

“Since its inception in 2007, Planeta Terra has continued to grow in size and the caliber of artists. Planeta Terra’s in-person and online access points encapsulate our mission as a global digital media company,” said Fernando Madeira, CEO, Terra. “Terra aims to continue to serve our audience worldwide, while also spreading environmental consciousness by acting responsibly in our own practice.”
