El Ojo 2010: Juan Carlos Ortiz will chair the jury of El Tercer Ojo and El Ojo Integrated Campaigns

President of DDB Latina Juan Carlos Ortiz will become – for the first time in the history of the event – President of El Tercer Ojo and El Ojo Integrated Campaigns’ jury. Together with the other categories presidents, he will be in charge of electing among the golds of the festival the Grand Ojos 2010. Thus, El Ojo once again implements innovations and becomes the first festival electing the grand prix of each category under an integrated approach. This is how El Ojo displays full understanding of the new challenges posed by the industry.

It is an honor for El Ojo de Iberoamerica to have Colombian Juan Carlos Ortiz as President since he is one of the Latin Americans who has succeeded in crossing cultural barriers and conquering the world. Almost three years ago, Bob Scarpelli, DDB Worldwide Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, and Chuck Brymer, DDB Worldwide President and CEO, proposed Ortiz to manage DDB’s Latin operations and he was able to bring together Latin America, US Hispanic and Spain, also strengthening the power of Latin markets in the world. Last year, he developed the “trios” model which is integrated by creatives, planners, and digital specialists, and that is already around the world. But there is more to it: Ortiz’s influence also extends to other territories. Last June, the adman was invited by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy to participate in a round table together with a group of executives from around the world and Young Global Leaders to the preparation of the G8 and G20 meetings which will take place in 2011. Furthermore, he will soon launch his book Cortos (Shorts), which he wrote from his Blackberry during his frequent work flights.

Ortiz began his career as a copywriter at Leo Burnett Colombia, where he worked his way up to Creative Director, a position he held until 1999 when he was promoted to President. A year later, and also in 2001, he was recognized as Best Creative in Colombia at El Ojo de Iberoamerica festival. In 2004, he went to Leo Burnett Chicago as Global Creative Director for Procter & Gamble. In 2005, he returned to Latin America as President of the network in the region and, at the end of the following year, he was named President of Leo Burnett North America. Thus, he became the first Latin to chair an advertising agency in the United States.
