Immigrant Archive Project: Sharing testimonies and experiences of Latino immigrants.

Tony Hernandez – University of Wisconsin-Superior Class of ’84 will return to campus to receive The Distinguished Alumnus Award and inform the campus and community about his nationwide Immigrant Archive Project.

Tony Hernandez (1984 Communicating Arts graduate) will describe his nationwide effort to preserve the stories of America’s Latino immigrants when he presents “Immigrant Archive Project: Sharing Testimonies and Experiences of Latino Immigrants Today” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in the Multicultural Center, Main 232, on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus.

Hernandez will share his personal story about fleeing Cuba with his family as political refugees in 1967 when he was only 5 years old. Today, Hernandez is the chief executive officer of Latino Broadcasting Company (LBC), a multimedia content provider specializing in Latino targeted programming located in Miami, Fla. He also is co-founder and executive director of the Immigrant Archive Project. During his presentation he will share a variety of video testimonies which together will begin to shed light on the complexities of the immigrant experience.

Hernandez will make a presentation in an open forum at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 16, in UW-Superior’s Multicultural Center for interested campus and community members. He will also be a guest lecturer in a Communicating Arts class later that day.

That evening Hernandez will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award at a special recognition ceremony in the Yellowjacket Union hosted by the UW-Superior’s Foundation Office.

On Friday during the day, Hernandez will speak in classrooms and meet with Latino students, staff, and community members at the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus and then end his stay in the Northland by his community presentation at UW-Superior at 7 p.m.
