Record Breaking 2010 FIFA World Cup on Univision Network for Opening Day.

Univision Communications Inc. announced that an average audience of 4.0 million (3,997,520) Total Viewers 2 plus tuned in to watch its exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ on the Opening Day, nearly doubling audiences from the first day of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The opening game alone, between Mexico and South Africa, attracted 5.4 million (5,398,318) Total Viewers 2 plus and 3.2 million (3,246,139) viewers among the all important demo of Adults 18-49 (Nielsen’s NPM Fast National ratings).

– Univision’s live telecast of the Uruguay vs. France match also scored an impressive 2.5 million among Total Viewers 2 plus (2,541,788) making it the 2nd most-watched opening day match in the history of the network, second only to the Mexico versus South Africa match earlier in the day.

– According to Nielsen’s NPM Fast National Ratings, the first two games averaged 4.0 million (3,997,520) Total Viewers 2 plus, nearly 2.0 million more than the average of the first two games of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ tournament in Germany, or nearly 2 times the audience.
