Tecate invites Soccer Aficionados to share their best Fan Stories.
April 10, 2010
Tecate kicked off the search for the best soccer fan story as part of the Historias de Aficionados Con Caracter program. Consumers are invited to share how far they’ve gone to watch the Mexican National Team play. The fans with the most compelling stories will have the chance to attend a private viewing party to watch the Mexico vs. South Africa game on June 11 alongside the cast of Univision Radio’s #1 show “Piolin por la Manana.”
“Soccer plays such a significant role in Mexican culture that our consumers go to great lengths to demonstrate their passion, support, and pride for their team and country. Through this program we have an opportunity to meet these individuals, hear their stories, and celebrate their caracter,” said Felix Palau, vice president of marketing for Tecate equity. “We encourage every adult to participate as we create one unified voice of support for the Mexican National Soccer across the U.S.”
As part of Tecate’s support of the Mexican soccer fan, the brand has also launched an extensive retail program including a commemorative 24 oz can featuring Cuauhtemoc Blanco; instant savings on viewing party essentials such as tortillas, salsa, chips, etc.; and a 20-minute calling card inside specially marked Tecate 12- and 18-packs. In addition, Tecate is hosting a series of appearances and autograph signing sessions in key markets with retired soccer players including Luis Roberto Alves “Zague,” Manuel Negrete and Alberto Garcia Aspe.
“There is nothing like the support of our fans to fuel our passion and motivate us to play the best 90 minutes of soccer,” said Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Mexican National Team player. “I will take these historias con caracter to South Africa and ensure each one is represented through our hard work and determination on the field.”
