Jorge Cantú passed away.
February 9, 2010
Jorge Cantú was one of the pioneer creatives of our industry. He worked in Hispanic marketing for almost 30 years (at Mendoza Dillon, Lopez Negrete, and many other agencies as a freelancer), and developed hundreds of ads. His work for Ford always beat the norms, both Hispanic and GM.
He could not have been prouder when his son chose advertising as his profession, and when 20 years later, became Creative Director of the same agency Jorge had been CD at.
He was generous to a fault, and a great friend. He never took the glory and would share any blame. He loved to create ads but hated to present them. He was the consummate team player, and a generous partner. He could talk about advertising all day and all night.
Jorge loved his children and advertising. Nothing more, nothing less.
He was one of the old creative breed, work hard all day, party hard all night and never, ever miss a deadline.
Jorge was a quiet man, reserved, honest, a dreamer.
He will be missed.
Jorge, we will have a shot of Cuervo Gold in your name tonight.
Eulogy to a friend by Luis Miguel Messianu
Today our industry lost a great writer, a very talented art director, an amazing storyboard artist and an awesome thinker.
All in one. A One Man Show.
We lost so much with the early departure of my good friend Jorge Cantú.
He was one of those silent heroes…
a humble pioneer…
a courageous Fourth Musketeer.
He was a craftsman, who loved the business and was always in search of ideas…
and in search of himself.
My friend, today you’re in a better place. You left at your own pace.
Your noble soul will always live amongst your friends.
Your wings will always let your son Diego and your daughter Paula soar free.
