December 25, 2009
Univision Network announced it has extended tonight’s special edition of “Sábado Gigante” (Giant Saturday) “Unidos Por Haití” (United for Haiti) to a 5-hour, commercial free telecast due to the overwhelming number of artists wishing to support this historic event. The company also announced that the program will be available throughout the evening via live streaming in the United States and internationally on Univision.com and on Univision Radio via Radio Cadena Univision. “Unidos Por Haití” airs today beginning at 7pm ET/PT (6pm Central).
Yesterday the network announced the full list of performers confirmed to join “Sábado Gigante’s” Don Francisco for the special, which will feature performances by 18 of the world’s top Latin music stars including Alejandra Guzman, Alejandro Sanz, Chayanne, Daddy Yankee, David Bisbal, Gloria Estefan, Graciela Beltrán, Juanes, Luis Fonsi, Natalia of La Quinta Estación, Olga Tañón, Paulina Rubio, Pee Wee, Pepe Aguilar, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Thalía and Willy Chirino.
Over 50 personalities from Univision, TeleFutura, Galavisión and Univision Radio will also be on-hand during the show to encourage viewers to donate to this worthy humanitarian cause.
In addition to the performances from the studios in Miami, “Unidos Por Haití” will also feature live segments from various cities across the U.S., including Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C. and San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as from Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The program will also be broadcast in 10 countries across Latin America.
This special telecast is in addition to the previously announced extensive, multi-platform effort across Univision Communications Inc. The Univision networks are leveraging their cross-promotion capabilities to promote the fundraising campaign through public service announcements (PSA’s) and special reports live from Haiti and from prominent Haitian communities in the U.S. The PSA’s are airing on all three Univision networks – Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión. Additionally, some of Univision and TeleFutura’s most popular programs, including “Despierta América” (Wake Up America), “El Gordo y La Flaca” (The Scoop and the Skinny), “Primer Impacto” (First Impact), “Noticiero Univision” (Univision Network News) and “Escándalo TV” (Showbiz TV) continue guiding viewers on how they can help and provide information from the American Red Cross, including an exclusive Spanish-language toll-free phone number (1-800-842-2200) where they can call to donate.
