July 26, 2009
KTVW Univision 33 announced an innovative partnership with the City of Phoenix, “Phoenix, Piensa Verde, Actúa Verde” (Phoenix, Think Green, Act Green) that will look to increase awareness of the environment among the area’s residents, as well as contribute to the new goal of sustainability for the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
KTVW Univision 33 will support the campaign by producing and airing public service announcements, promotional spots, educational vignettes, instructive news segments on “being green,” as well as events and community outreach programs to create a conscience among the public of the importance of being environmentally responsible.
Phil Gordon, Mayor of Phoenix, said “the ‘Green Phoenix’ 17-point plan, which has the endorsement of the U.S. Secretary of Energy, and with the help of our partners like Univision Arizona, will make Phoenix America’s first Carbon-Neutral City and America’s Greenest City.” He added, “Univision’s ‘Phoenix Think Green, Act Green’ campaign is key to educate our community, especially our growing Latino and Spanish-speaking population.”
Univision 33’s “Phoenix, Piensa Verde, Actúa Verde” promotes the 17 different proposals in the “Green Phoenix” program that intend to better manage the natural resources that the area possesses, as well as to create a better standard of living among its citizens and to preserve the quality of life that Phoenix already offers its community.
These proposals consist of creating sustainable schools, creating and using renewable energy and ameliorating urban mobility within the city’s urban core, create greener neighborhoods, while also giving incentives to home and business owners to upgrade their current systems, and to increase the amount of green areas within the city, as well as using native plants to meet this latter goal.
This partnership comes in the heels of the City of Phoenix program “Green Phoenix”, which aims to create a partnership between the city and business leaders to usher a new era of environmental responsibility among the area’s residents and the businesses that serve the community.
