Telemundo & mun2 to broadcast World Cup Qualifer – Mexico vs. USA in English & Spanish simulcast.

Telemundo Communications Group announced it will broadcast the August 12th Rumbo Al Mundial World Cup qualifier Mexico vs. USA simultaneously on the Telemundo network in Spanish and on its Latino youth cable network mun2 in English. This will be the first-ever live sporting event to air on Telemundo and mun2 simultaneously and the first time mun2 broadcasts a major sporting event.

Mexico’s World Cup qualifying match against the U.S. in August will be the latest installment in an ongoing rivalry between the two nations. The game will be produced by Deportes Telemundo and appropriately branded in each of the networks.  Each network will have its own announcers. The expertise of Deportes Telemundo will be unparalleled with its team neutral coverage of the event, regardless of network viewers choose to watch it on.

On Telemundo, coverage of Rumbo Al Mundial – Mexico vs. USA, “La Hora de la Verdad,” begins at 3pm Eastern,12 pm Pacific, live coast to coast. This World Cup qualifying match will be hosted by Telemundo’s sports experts Andrés Cantor and Sammy Sadovnik, who will bring all the emotion and passion directly from the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Karim Mendiburu will be reporting from the stadium with the fans perspective before the match and Kaziro Aouyama will be reporting from the sideline during the game to provide viewers with up to the minute coverage of each teams strategy during the match while Jessi Losada will be the studio host providing viewers an in-depth look of all players, news and scores from the world of soccer during the match.

Coverage of the game on mun2 will be called “Showdown at the Azteca.” mun2, the lifestyle cable network for bicultural Latinos 18-34, recently surpassed 31 million U.S. households in national distribution, and offers popular series that include “The Chicas Project,” “18 and Over,” and “Reventon Countdown.” Coverage will begin at 3:55pm Eastern, 12:55pm Pacific on mun2. The network will offer exclusive game announcers, graphics and English-language feed for this novel television event.

Rumbo al Mundial – Mexico vs. El Salvador World Cup Qualifying soccer match which aired on Saturday, June 6 was the #1 program of the night regardless of language in key demos. As a matter of fact, Rumbo al Mundial has shown consistent growth across a variety of younger demos. This year, Rumbo al Mundial games are averaging nearly 1.2 million Adults 18-34, up 44% vs. 2007 and 1.3 million 12-34, up 35% from 2007.
