Huggies and Pull-Ups brands celebrate Mother’s Day en Español.

The Huggies and Pull-Ups brands last week unveiled an array of valuable offerings for Hispanic moms designed to make their celebration extra special. The offerings feature everything from a free book of culturally relevant parenting tips and children’s stories to a new bilingual rewards program – Sube A Bordo y Gana – that offers chances to earn valuable rewards and win instant prizes.

The new book, Consejos de Mamá a Mamá, is a compilation of cherished parenting secrets submitted by more than 14,000 Latina moms from around the country between September and November 2008. It is available free of charge at participating stores. Moms can also sign up at www.SubeABordoyGana.com for the rewards program, and automatically become eligible to win a one year’s supply of Huggies brand diapers given away by the brand every day for the remainder of the year.

“The Sube A Bordo y Gana program is a great value for any young Hispanic mother struggling to stay afloat during these uncertain economic times,” said renowned radio psychologist Dr. Isabel Gomez-Bassols, Hispanic spokesperson for the brands. “Consejos de Mamá a Mamá is no less valuable in that it offers new and expectant Latina moms the accumulated child-rearing experience and support of generations of Hispanic mothers. It is a true celebration of how we raise our children in the Hispanic culture.”

Dr. Isabel, who helped oversee the book’s editing, unveiled it at a special Mother’s Day luncheon for 150 underprivileged Hispanic Moms from the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. The Pull-Ups brand also chose this unique venue to debut the first-ever Potty Quebradita, a Hispanic version of the famous Pull-Ups brand Potty Dance. Ten local toddlers entertained and surprised both audience and members of the media with this special rendition of the Potty Dance arranged to the rhythm of a traditional Mexican quebradita.

“The Pull-Ups brand came up with the Potty Quebradita as a way to make the Potty Dance relevant to Hispanic moms,” said Dr. Isabel, who explained that the Potty Dance is designed to encourage and support tots during any stage of the potty training process by celebrating their achievements toward becoming a Big Kid. ”The step-by-step moves are easy for kids (and parents) to learn so families can break into the dance no matter what potty training steps they are on or milestone they have reached.”

Besides sponsoring the luncheon, the Huggies and Pull-Ups brands jointly donated $10,000 to the two non-profit centers, who annually put the luncheon together – the Lucille Beserra Roybal Youth & Family Center, and its sister agency, the Boyle Heights Technical Center. Both agencies serve area Hispanic moms with a variety of social services, including parenting and citizenship classes, English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer training. The keynote speaker at the event was Mrs. Eleonor Romos Olmos, mother of actor Edward James Olmos and a long-time friend of both centers.

“The Huggies and Pull-Ups brands’ sponsorship of this beautiful Mother’s Day tradition is one of the many ways the brands are there for mom throughout the ups and downs of the parenting journey,” Dr. Isabel said. “All the mothers there received a month’s supply of Huggies brand diapers and were officially declared Huggies moms.”
