Telemundo 52 joins forces with Cash For College – informing students & parents.

Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles announced that they have committed to intense coverage of the Cash for College initiative the entire month of February. Along with weekly Cash for College experts on their Morning and Midday newscasts explaining how to get free cash or grants from the State and Federal government, Telemundo 52 has agreed to special coverage of a Cash for College Call Center on Monday, February 9th from 5A to Midnight arranged by the Office of State Senator Lou Correa, State Senator Negrete Mc Leod, the California Student Aid Commission, California State University Fullerton and student volunteers.

Many students and their families are unaware of their eligibility or find it difficult to understand the application process in relation to Cal Grants and other available financial aid. In addition, many students and their families are in need of finding out where and when the nearest Cash for College workshop will take place. The on-campus Cash for College Call Center is designed to help students who plan to go to college or career/technical schools during the 2009-2010 academic year to secure financial aid for their expenses. The Monday, February 9th phone bank will be held at Cal State University Fullerton and will offer 20 toll-free number phone lines and bi-lingual counselors to answer the phones from 5A to Midnight.

“In a time when the cost of college tuition is at an all time high, it is important that our community has access to information on securing available funding for higher education.” said José Valle, President & General Manager for Telemundo 52. “Our on-air efforts will reach many of those parents and students that see college as unattainable because of the lack of funds.”

Telemundo 52’s commitment to the Cash for College February campaign not only includes Guest Experts and Call Center Coverage but also news reports on workshops, locations and the importance of college for Latino students, whether documented or not, during their 6P News and En Contexto at 11P.

“As university tuition costs keep rising every year, a Cal Grant means eligible students can pay for college expenses at any California university, community college, or career technical school. I encourage every student and their parents to apply and take advantage of this great opportunity,” stated Senator Correa.

At each workshop, students and parents will receive free assistance in completing the entire Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Cal Grant application forms. Please note, AB 540 students (undocumented students) may also attend a Cash for College workshop. By attending a workshop an AB 540 student can be eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship (AB 540 students do not qualify for a Cal Grant, but they do qualify for certain private scholarships). All they need to do is call our 1800 number, and we will help them get to their nearest Cash for College workshop.
