There are 19% more horseracing fans than Indy racing league fans.

Two spectator-heavy events occur in May: the Kentucky Derby and the Indianapolis 500. Millions of Americans nationwide gather on-site or in front of their television to witness these high-excitement sporting events.

Experian Simmons reviewed these two events to better understand who the fans are as well as their similarities and differences. One similarity discovered during the comparison between Kentucky Derby and Indy 500 fans is that both seek thrills and excitement. However, these thrill seekers differ in age. Twenty-six percent of horseracing fans are 50 years old, while a majority of motor sports racing fans are younger (11 percent are 18 to 34 years old; 17 percent are 35 to 49 years old).
