Digital Decade for Latinas: Empowerment, Economy and E- Cycling.

Caminos-Pathways Learning Center will highlight the progress of Latinas in the field of technology and honor the women who have led the way at our 10-year anniversary celebration Digital Decade for Latinas: Empowerment, Economy and E-Cycling on February 19, 2009.

Digital Decade for Latinas will honor the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology and Latinas in Computing for their work in increasing access to technology for minority women across the nation and in the local Bay Area community. We will also honor Caminos founder Sister Petra Chavez for 40 years of service to San Francisco’s Latino community.

“The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology is passionately committed to having a diverse workforce engaged in the use and creation of technology. We fully support the efforts of the CAMINOS group to reach out to Latinas and provide them with the skills that will develop self sufficiency, and expand digital inclusion efforts. We are honored to be acknowledged by this wonderful organization,” said Telle Whitney, CEO of the Anita Borg Institute.

At the event, Caminos will present the results of a new report called Latina Immigrants and Technology in San Francisco’s Mission District, compiled using data gathered since our organization’s inception in 1999 and data provided by the Anita Borg Institute.

“Technology has empowered Latinas and served as a tool for their economic mobility over the past 10 years and we see new emerging trends that can have a significant impact in years to come,” said Laura G. Valdez, Executive Director of Caminos.
