Hispanic Fashion Weekend for Fashionistas.
December 21, 2008
The Hispanic Fashion Weekend will begin sweeping the country in 2009. Emerging and established designers of Hispanic descent have jumped on board this historical event, which will take place in seventeen cities across the country throughout the year. Intended to unify the Hispanic fashion community with the fusion of fashion, music, art and culture, Hispanic Fashion Weekend will be the premier platform for the future of mañana’s most elite runways.
The schedule includes the following cities and dates with, of course, a break for a siesta on Cinco de Mayo:
San Diego, 3/26 – 3/28
Phoenix, 4/2 – 4/4
Tucson, 4/9 – 4/11
El Paso, 4/16- 4/18
Albuquerque, 4/23-4/25
San Antonio, 5/7 -5/9
Denver, 5/14 – 5/16
Las Vegas, 5/21 – 5/23
Orange County, 5/28 – 5/30
San Francisco, 6/4 – 6/6
“We are thrilled to be part of this historical venture,” says Kourtney Glor of Glorious Events, the production company behind the event. “World renowned designers like Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera have paved the road for Hispanic designers and we intend to keep the Hispanic talent at the forefront of the fashion world with Hispanic Fashion Weekend.”
Along with the goal of creating a united fashion community among Hispanics, Hispanic Fashion Weekend also aims to support the next generation’s upcoming talent within the fashion arena by providing scholarships for future couturiers. One lucky Hispanic designer will win the chance to attend a fashion school of their dreams. Each year two designers will be awarded this amazing opportunity to advance their careers in the world of fashion.
Candidates should submit a headshot (for verification purposes), a design sketch and a 500-word essay about how they plan to represent the Hispanic community in the fashion industry in the future to sc*********@********************nd.com by May 15, 2009. A winner will be announced following the final event in June.
