Jesus Soto to receive The Profiles Leadership Award from SBA.

It was announced that Jesus M. Soto, will receive the Spanish Broadcasters Association’s Profiles in Leadership Award for 2008 in a ceremony and reception to be held in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 during the National Association of Broadcaster’s Radio Show.
The Spanish Broadcasters Association (which was formerly known as the Independent Spanish Broadcasters Association) will be recognizing Mr. Soto, CEO of the Uno Radio Group of Puerto Rico, for being a pioneer in Spanish broadcasting during his many years as a radio broadcaster in Puerto Rico and in Florida. Mr. Soto, who is a trained communications engineer, purchased his first radio stations in 1972; WPRM-FM in San Juan and WNEL-AM in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Since then, he has built the preeminent radio group in Puerto Rico with 14 stations and a highly rated radio network that is heard throughout the island.
The Profiles in Leadership Award honors an Hispanic Broadcaster for pioneer work in the broadcast industry. Last year the SBA honored Eduardo Gomez of KABQ-AM in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Gomez was honored for working in the early 1960’s in Spanish language broadcasting in the United States.
SBA board member and counsel to the Puerto Rico Radio Broadcasters Association, Francisco Montero stated, “We are honored and delighted to have Don Jesus Soto as our honoree this year. He has been an inspiration and role model for Hispanic broadcasters in Puerto Rico and throughout the United States.”
