Telemundo 2008 Olympic Gold.

Telemundo Communications Group revealed that its upcoming telecast of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China will be the best ad-supported broadcast of the Olympics in the network’s history. Telemundo has signed on major national advertisers across all categories including AT&T, Coca-Cola, Farmers Insurance, Mexico Tourism Board, Target and U.S. Navy. Locally, the games will be sponsored by AT&T and Chevron. The announcement was made by Jacqueline Hernandez, Chief Operating Officer, Telemundo and Mike Rodriguez, Senior Vice President, Network Sales and Marketing, Telemundo and Enrique Perez, Senior Vice President, Telemundo Station Sales.

“This year’s Olympic broadcast on Telemundo is unprecedented in many ways,” said Hernandez. “On the programming front, we will be airing over 380 hours of exclusive coverage and on the advertising and sponsorship side, it will be our best ad-supported Olympic broadcast to date. Our partners share in our commitment to delivering the best quality product to our audience and we are thrilled to be the first Spanish-language network to broadcast in China.”

Fifty one percent of Hispanic Households (5.4 million homes) tuned into coverage of those games on Telemundo,” added Rodriguez. ”Advertisers are aware of the power of the Olympics as a reach vehicle to attract a sizeable and desirable Hispanic audience/consumer and Telemundo is the only place they can do so.”

Covering a wide variety of Hispanics’ favorite sports, Telemundo kicks off its summer Olympic broadcast on Wednesday, August 6 and continues through Sunday, August 24. In its second Olympic broadcast, Telemundo will offer an unprecedented 380+ hours of exclusive coverage through its standard daily broadcast schedule – 2am to 6am ET/PT and 8am to 10am ET/PT. The network Olympic coverage will feature competitions in the following sports, among others: men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, gymnastics, diving, volleyball, as well as track and field, swimming and baseball.

In addition, Telemundo is launching www.OlimpiadasTelemundo.com, featuring more than 220 hours of up-to-the-minute information and exclusive broadband video content 24/7. Photo galleries, videos, profiles of prominent Olympians, news, historic information and images from past Olympics, as well as from Beijing, will be available on the network’s webpage. The site also provides recaps of past Latino Olympic performances, medal stats, Olympic information by country, real time scores and full digital access to the Summer Olympics.
