Unilever’s ‘Desafío del Sabor’ returns.

Desafío del Sabor (The Flavor Challenge) is back for a third year and is inviting Latino families to participate in family challenge events at top grocery retailers across the country. The Desafío del Sabor Flavor Challenge will be traveling to cities, such as Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and Phoenix between June and August looking for families to showcase their knowledge about two things that all Latinos love — food and cooking.

This year’s campaign is sponsored by some of Unilever’s best-known brands, including Knorr, Ragu, Lipton and Hellman’s. The Desafío del Sabor Flavor Challenge will provide Hispanic families the chance to compete together as a team against other families.

Desafío del Sabor has been such a tremendous success that we wanted to bring it back on an even larger scale with activities that include the entire family

“Desafío del Sabor has been such a tremendous success that we wanted to bring it back on an even larger scale with activities that include the entire family,” said Joseph Vizcarra, Multicultural Integrated Marketing Manager, Unilever U.S. “In taking the Desafío del Sabor experience to communities around the country, families will play fun and interactive games that focus on Hispanic food and cooking preferences and have the chance to win great prizes.”

The Flavor Challenge events will incorporate results from the *Unilever/ Desafío del Sabor Survey conducted among Hispanics nationwide. Among the key findings were:

— 33% of Hispanics reported that their family members say that cilantro is the preferred ingredient to give meals that special Latin flavor, over garlic (31%), onion (23%) and peppers (13%).

— 34% of Hispanic consumers said that their children would prefer to have chicken nuggets for lunch, over spaghetti and meatballs (29%), tacos (26%) and peanut butter and jelly sandwich (11%).

— 72% of Hispanic consumers said that their family would choose Italian cuisine over Asian (17%), French (6%) and Greek (5%) when asked which international cuisine they prefer.

“I had an incredible experience with last year’s Desafío del Sabor Flavor Challenge and am thrilled that this year’s events will now offer competitive fun for the whole family,” said Karelys Leal, 2007 National Desafío del Sabor winner. “It really is a blessing to be able to spend time with our loved ones and I applaud Unilever for making the Challenge even bigger and better by incorporating more family interaction into this year’s competition.”

2008 Desafío del Sabor Flavor Challenge events will be taking place at participating grocery retailers in cities across the country. Please visit http://www.desafiodelsabor.com for a complete schedule and details for events in your city.

*The Desafío del Sabor Survey was conducted from February-April, 2008 by Unilever to reveal Hispanic consumers’ food and cooking preferences among a nationally representative sample of 19,547 entries.
