Univision launches video on demand offering.

Univision Communications Inc. unveiled its Video On Demand offering with more than 1,000 hours of sports, news, movies and entertainment from Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The new offering, announced during the Cable Show in New Orleans, establishes the most extensive library of Spanish-language content in the U.S.
“Univision is focused on providing our distributors with the opportunity to tap into the huge growth opportunity with U.S. Hispanics. Univision is the most recognized brand in Spanish-language media and can be a very powerful marketing tool for cable operators, ” said Tonia O’Connor, executive vice president of Distribution Sales & Marketing, Univision Communications Inc. “The quality and extent of our VOD offering, coupled with an unmatched relationship with our audience, positions us to meet the needs of both our viewers, who want expanded access, and our distribution partners, who need to effectively compete in today’s crowded television space.”
The Video On Demand offering, which will be available January 2009, will include access to exclusive footage from Univision’s top programs and biggest events including access to the world’s largest sporting event, FIFA World Cup; “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina,” the longest-running and most-watched awards show on Spanish-language TV honoring the best in Latin music; “Premios Juventud,” Spanish-language TV’s first and only awards show honoring idols of Hispanic youth in the areas of film, music, sports, fashion and pop culture; and many of Univision’s lifestyle, news, sports and reality programs.
O’Connor added, “With purchasing power that is growing more than 50 percent faster than non-Hispanic and expected to reach more than $1 trillion by 2010, the time is right to provide Hispanic households with robust content offerings.”
