La Gran D launches in Eastern North Carolina.

NextMedia Group, which operates fourteen (14) radio stations serving Eastern North Carolina, threw the switch on WLGD 98.7, converting its 100,000 Watts to broadcast a Spanish language format. La Gran D, (the Big One) features popular Latin music, news and community service programming twenty-four hours a day.

“We saw a great opportunity to serve a large and growing population that was, until today, without a radio station to call its own,” stated Jeff Dinetz, President of NextMedia Radio. “Our research indicates that there are more than 130,000 Hispanics residing in the area covered by WLGD’s 100,000 Watt signal. NextMedia is most proud to have the opportunity to serve this community.”

Barry Brown, Regional Vice President for NextMedia commented: “We are totally committed to bring this important population segment the news, entertainment, and community service that they desire. La Gran D’s format is especially designed to serve the Spanish speaking residents of our area.”

“I am most excited to lead the team that is bringing this powerhouse Spanish language station to Eastern North Carolina. La Gran D fills a need for listeners, advertisers and community service organizations,” said David Patella, Market Manager of the station. “Joining me in launching the station are T.J. Anzivino, Market Manager for NextMedia in Greenville, New Bern, and Jacksonville, NC, and Jeff Sanchez, Operations Manager of La Gran D. Mr. Sanchez is a long time resident of Wilmington, particularly experienced in the area of community service. He will be working closely with the area‚s Hispanic organizations to see how La Gran D can best serve their needs.”
