WTVJ, NBC 6 and WSCV, Telemundo 51, both NBC Universal-owned television stations, are first in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale market to broadcast in high-definition (HD) among all English and Spanish language stations. The announcement was made by Ardyth Diercks, NBC 6 President and General Manager, and by Manuel Martinez, President and General Manager of Telemundo 51.
“At NBC 6 we are now producing over 30 hours of local news and programming in HD per week and we are extremely pleased and proud to be first in offering this enhanced television experience to our viewers,” said Ardyth Diercks. “This newest viewer benefit is in keeping with our rich history of excellence in technology and content,” added Diercks.
HDTV provides a dramatically clearer, wider and more detailed picture, with better sound than ever previously available. It offers the highest resolution, with more natural and richer colors and tremendous clarity, giving viewers a superior picture quality on both, standard and HD television sets.
“This is the beginning of a new era for our stations, and it is our commitment to excellence in technological innovation that has been key in getting us to this exciting moment in South Florida broadcasting history,” said Manuel Martinez. “We currently air 17 hours of local newscasts per week, which as of today are all produced in high-definition, and we will soon be adding regularly scheduled local specials to our line-up which will provide a much more enjoyable HD viewing experience to our viewers,” added Martinez.
