Sara Ramirez joins GLAAD’s ‘Be an Ally & a Friend’ PSA campaign.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez as part of its “Be an Ally & a Friend” campaign. The 30-second Spanish-language spot will be premiering on Terra.com.

In the PSA, the Tony Award-winning, Mazatlan-born actress encourages viewers to treat others with dignity and respect regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. The new PSA can be viewed at www.glaad.org or embedded from LiveVideo here: http://www.livevideo.com/GLAAD>

“Sara‚’s beloved by millions of Grey’s Anatomy fans, which makes her a terrific person to share this message of support. The fact that she delivers this positive message in Spanish will help many people understand how words can hurt the gay and transgender people around them,” says GLAAD’s Director of Spanish Language Media, Monica Trasandes.

GLAAD’s “Be an Ally & a Friend” PSA campaign features 22 public figures from television, film and sports. The spots encourage people to be allies to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, directing viewers to resources at glaad.org.

GLAAD is releasing a new 20- or 30-second version of the PSA approximately every two weeks to be aired through broadcast collaborations with Access Hollywood, national cable networks such as Fox Reality, GSN, IFC, Lifetime, The N, Sci Fi Channel and Sundance Channel; local cable systems and network affiliates; online at LiveVideo, YouTube, AOL Video and MySpace.
