Telemundo names GMs in key markets.

Telemundo announced new appointments of station leaders in key markets. The following executives have been appointed to their new positions effective immediately: Carlos Sanchez to Vice President and General Manager of WNJU in New York; Manuel Abud to Vice President and General Manager of KXTX in Dallas; Celia Chavez to Vice President and General Manager of KDEN in Denver and KBLR in Las Vegas; and Roel Medina adds Vice President and General Manager of KVDA in San Antonio to his current responsibilities at KTMD in Houston. The announcements were made jointly by Don Browne, President, Telemundo and Ibra Morales, President of Telemundo Stations Group.

“We are off to an outstanding start this year,” said Browne. “Today’s general manager announcements are an important step to making us stronger and building on the successes of the Telemundo station and network partnership. The team has never been stronger and we have never been better positioned to reach our great potential.”

“These appointments are a natural evolution for these talented individuals. Each one of them brings a wealth of expertise in station management and an understanding of the local markets. Their expertise will help expand the Telemundo brand locally to reach Hispanic viewers anywhere, anytime,” said Morales.

Sanchez, was previously Vice President and General Manager of KBLR in Las Vegas and KDEN in Denver. He has two successful new station launches under his belt and is a board member of the United Way, Latin Chamber of Commerce and University of Nevada Las Vegas new school of journalism.

Abud’s broad experience in broadcast has included Vice President and General Manager of KVEA in Los Angeles, President of Telemundo Cable, in addition to key positions at CBS/Telenoticias, Medcom and Grupo Televisa. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Houston Baptist University in Texas and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Business Administration from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.

Chavez’s talent in developing key client relationships throughout her Telemundo career earned her the position of Vice President and General Manager of KVDA in San Antonio in 2006. She joined the Telemundo family in 1988 as an Account Executive for KWHY. Chavez is an active member of the Big Brothers & Sisters club.

Medina continues his role as Vice President and General Manager KTMD in Houston, a role he has had since 2004, and adds KVDA in San Antonio. He has had a prestigious career in broadcast television for 30 years. Medina served on the Texas Association of Broadcasters for 5 years and is a board member of the American Women of Radio and Television and the Sylvan Rodriguez Foundation.
