DIRECTV and SBS-Mega TV sign exclusive contract in Puerto Rico.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) announced that it has signed an exclusive contract with DIRECTV, the leader in digital television signal distribution, to broadcast MEGA TV programming in Puerto Rico through DIRECTV’s Channel 169.

“We are proud to be the pioneer in integrating these two media formats to provide viewers in Puerto Rico with broader and better content,” said Cynthia Hudson-Fernandez, Chief Creative Officer and Executive Vice President of SBS. “Mega TV’s expansion into Puerto Rico through our partnership with DIRECTV is another step in the execution of our strategy to build and capitalize on our unique content offering across radio, TV and the Internet.”

Just two years since its launch in Miami, MEGA TV has been the fastest growing television station in the history of the South Florida television market, achieving unprecedented recognition by its audience in record time. Last September, MEGA TV launched its signal nationwide through DIRECTV Más. Now, SBS and DIRECTV will do the same in Puerto Rico, where SBS already has a major presence through its five highly popular radio stations.

“As an exclusive channel on the DIRECTV platform, MEGA TV will provide our audiences in Puerto Rico with a unique and exciting television experience,” said Rick Nerod, Vice President of Programming for DIRECTV Latin America. “We are extremely happy to be entering into this partnership, which will help us to further expand our reach and continuously add value to the extensive Spanish language programming offered by SBS and DIRECTV.” MEGA TV will be available to all DIRECTV Clients at no extra cost.

“We are delighted to expand our relationship with DIRECTV,” added Cynthia Hudson-Fernández. “We can now offer the Puerto Rican market new and original programming that fits into the genre of ‘Radio on Television,’ that is widely promoted by MEGA TV with morning shows like the recently launched ‘El Circo’ on WMEG La Mega 106.7 FM – Hosted by the legendary DJs ‘El Gangster’ and ‘Funky Joe – and the ever popular ‘El Vacilón De La Mañana broadcasted from New York reaching Puerto Rico through La Zeta. Our objective is to expand our radio brands to television and offer our viewers another opportunity to experience the spontaneous interactive nature of radio,” she concluded.

DIRECTV Channel 169 viewers in Puerto Rico will have access to live and exclusive programming from MEGA TV, which includes, but is not limited to shows such as “María Elvira Live,” “Alexis Valdés,” “Bayly,” “Paparazzi TV,” “MEGA News,” “Xpediente,” “El Círculo,” “Lamusica.com,” “Conexión Astral,” “Handyman,” “Raíces y Recuerdos,” “Mis 15,” “Agenda Del Inmigrante,” and “Mega Cine,” among others.
