HACU and Wal-Mart Partnership Scholarships.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) announced that Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., was increasing its support for scholarships to college students at HACU-member institutions. The announcement was made during a Partnership Luncheon at HACU’s 21st Annual Conference, “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: A National Imperative for the 21st Century,” held in Chicago.

Michael Moore, vice president of segment merchandising – business reseller, Sam’s Club, presented a check for $300,000 to Antonio Flores, Ph.D., president and CEO of HACU, for the HACU-Wal-Mart Achievers Scholarship Program. The partnership represents a commitment to fund more HACU-Wal-Mart Achievers Scholarships over the next three years. “Wal-Mart’s contribution to our scholarship program represents an increased commitment to support student success at HACU-member institutions,” said Flores. “We are grateful for their continued commitment to the success of our students.”

The HACU-Wal-Mart Achievers Scholarship Program will award $1000 scholarships annually to qualified juniors or seniors at HACU-member institutions in selected majors beginning Fall 2008. “As part of our ongoing commitment to education and the Hispanic community, we are proud to support the HACU-Wal-Mart Achievers Scholarship, which allows talented and deserving young men and women to achieve their dream of higher education in business-related fields,” said Esther Silver-Parker, senior vice president of Diversity Relations, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., “We are excited that even more students will benefit from our grant this year.”
