Actors, music entrepreneur, radio mogul, private investors and Roldan interested in Telemundo PR.

The announcement that NBC Universal intends to sell their Telemundo station in Puerto Rico created a buzz never heard before regarding the sale of a media entity in Puerto Rico.

Industry insiders state that several local actors and investors have voiced their interest in being part of a group to acquire the property. Additionally, a very well known Spanish music mogul with a lot of influence in the music industry has been expressing interest. To cap this, Luis Roldan who recently left abruptly his relationship with Carlos Barba and Caribevision and previously ran the Telemundo station for several years, has been heard making calls to put a group together. Mr. Roldan was able to put a group of local investors to make an offer for WAPA-TV when it was for sale recently.

It also should attract the interest of Raul Alarcon of Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS), since he could pair his radio stations with the TV property and enjoy a major foothold on the island. Mr. Alarcon has been very interested in creating a major TV platform for SBS.

One thing to keep in mind is that the property cannot come without a programming agreement with Telemundo in the USA. The estimated asking price of Telemundo Puerto Rico is over $225 million, thus requiring a programming option to offset acquisition and operational costs. Should the intent to create a total locally produced programming model, this model would not be economically feasible under the cost requirements to purchase and run the facility and the current economic environment on the island.

That is a fact.
