‘NADA’ to premier on Mega Cine.

Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) announced that ”Nada,” starring Thais Valdes and Daisy Granados, premiered on MEGA CINE on Saturday, September 22 at 8:00 PM on WSBS-MEGA TV Channel 22. The home of legendary Cuban theater, MEGA CINE is hosted by Gilberto Reyes.

“To leave or not to leave?” – that is the question. ”Nada” is the story of Carla Péraz, a young dreamer who is played by the talented Thais Valdes. As her parents have migrated to Miami, each year they enter her into a lottery to obtain her Visa for permanent resident status in the United States. However, she is plagued by a desperate feeling of loneliness in both her professional and personal life.

As an employee of a post office branch in Havana, Carla is burdened by the horrible bureaucracy that her office has become and the strict rules and regulations that are enforced by Cunda, her boss, who is played by Daisy Granados. Carla, however, begins to break free from the mold of this bureaucracy by doing more than just sending and receiving letters. She compassionately aims to help each person in their search for happiness and love. At first, her coworker, Cesar, played by Nacho Lugo, believes her to be acting irrationally, but soon supports her in her endeavors to help others.

However, Carla receives word that she has been chosen from the lottery and is given the opportunity to interview for resident status in the United States. Suddenly, she is faced with a heart breaking dilemma of having to choose between reuniting with her family and following a path that has been chosen for her, or to stay behind and to continue helping others.

“NADA” has been well-received by film critics, having been recognized at festivals including the 2001 Havana film Festival, the 2003 Cartagena Film Festival, where Valdes won Best Actress. Additionally, “Nada” has been nominated several times at prominent award ceremonies such as The Mexican Ariel Awards and The Spanish Goya, where it received nominations for Best Foreign Movie in Spanish language, both in 2003.
