U.S. Army implements ‘Leaders among US’ program.
March 17, 2007
The United States Army has launched the “Leaders Among Us” (LAU) program to foster a deeper relationship with Latino youth. LAU events will take place at select universities in Los Angeles, San Antonio, Miami and Chicago May through October 2007.
LAU is a major interactive rally with onsite activities, where attendees will get to hear first-hand testimonials from active duty and retired Soldiers. The rallies are expected to draw 3,000 attendees and will raise awareness of the myriad career opportunities available in today’s Army through a series of interactive events. Students will be invited to attend through their schools’ ROTC chapters and will be provided with transportation to and from the event. As a special highlight, retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Consuelo Kickbusch will share her service experience and offer motivational insight through her life learnings.
Guest speaker, award winning recording-artist Kevin Ceballo, will be on-site to answer questions and participate side-by-side with attendees. “LAU is not only a fun day of activities, but it’s a great way for young Latinos to find out more about the opportunities offered by the U.S. Army. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
“Leaders Among Us is intended to motivate and inspire the youth of America toward meaningful careers in the Army,” said Colonel Thomas Nickerson, Director, G-7/9 Strategic Communications, Marketing & Outreach U.S. Army Accessions Command. “We are offering something unique and special to our attendees; they will get to hear first-hand about the opportunities the Army offers straight from active duty and retired Soldiers.”
