ESPN Deportes announced an initiative to give fans and baseball experts an opportunity to select an All-Time Latino Baseball Dream Team through
a project called Béisbol Esta Noche: Estrellas Latinas. From April 1 to July 8 the network has invited fan and baseball experts throughout the Americas
to vote on the 12-member All-Time Latino Dream Team. Winners will be revealed July 9 in a special edition of Béisbol Esta Noche, ESPN Deportes’ weekly baseball news and information show.
The All-Time Latino Baseball Dream team ballot features a mix of current and former Latino major leaguers selected by ESPN Deportes’ baseball research team and baseball experts.
“The contributions of Latinos in the game of baseball are so numerous and far reaching,” said Chris Calcinari, vice president of production and operations,
ESPN Deportes. “A significant percentage of major leaguers are from Latin America which makes this initiative tremendously appealing to our target audience. We look forward to launching this program and expect it to spark fan interest.”
Fans, baseball journalists in the U.S. and Latin America, and ESPN’s English and Spanish-speaking baseball experts will determine the 12 winners.
Through the first week of July, baseball fans in the Americas can cast their votes via ESPNdeportes.com and SMS (text messaging). Beginning April 1, voters are allowed to cast their selection for each candidate one position at a time; a new position will be posted weekly on ESPNdeportes.com. In addition,
ESPN’s English-language program Baseball Tonight will air features on each week’s highlighted position.
