February 26, 2007
mun2 has partnered with top-selling Cuban-American rapper Pitbull for an edgy, new and original reality humor series, “Pitbull’s La Esquina,” premiering on mun2 May 9th at 10PM. The star-studded show just kicked off production in Miami.
Hosted by and starring Pitbull, the show mixes episodic “street sitcom” with variety-style entertainment. The Miami-based bilingual rapper, working on his third album entitled Boatlift (Diaz Bros.TVT Records), has long been a fixture in the local and national hip-hop scene, collaborating on over 50 commercially released albums, including platinum hit singles with artists like Lil Jon, DJ Khaled and the Ying Yang Twins. As the top Latin artist on myspace.com, as well as a top five hip-hop artist on the site, Pitbull has loyal following among young Latinos in the top Hispanic markets, with over 85% of his fans falling within the key demo of 12-34 years-old, mun2’s core audience.
Shot on-site in his neighborhood of Little Havana, Miami, the mun2 series profiles Pitbull and his cohort barber and comic sidekick, The Fademaster, as they entertain their celebrity buddies while hanging out on a legendary Miami corner, “La Esquina.” Together, through their Latino-Urban perspectives, they dream up comic wagers to settle their disagreements on important issues of the day including immigration, dating, family, stereotypes, Latino finances and music.
The series consists of 8 half-hour episodes, with each show centered around a sketch acted out by Pitbull and friends about the “issue of the day” and further developed with a slew of celebrity guests who offer their own commentary on the issues at hand. Special celebrity appearances include Akon, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Toby Love, Christina Milian, Jim Jones, Alexis y Fido, Chingo Bling, Bun-B, White Boy, Cool and Dre and Adassa, among others.
“This show is a humorous reflection of a segment of our audience, because of its honesty and unique point of view,” said Alex Pels, General Manager, mun2. “Pitbull stays loyal to his Latin roots and is deeply dedicated to the Latino community. His distinct voice, which is edgy to some and real to others, is always true to the mission of mun2—and that is authenticity. Pitbull is the real deal and this series shows a slice of life that Latinos rarely see in media; plus, he’s really entertaining!”
“mun2 was the first to give me an outlet for my music when it wasn’t as accepted as it is today. So, it’s great to now come full circle and be back home at a place that supported me then,” added Pitbull. “The overall feel of the show is funny, but my message is serious. It’s time for us to tackle important matters affecting our community on our terms—in a way that’s real, but also fun.”
A multiplatform effort, the show will have extensive support at mun2’s popular website www.holamun2.com. The site will include clip highlights from every episode and will also feature original and exclusive Pitbull footage. In addition, each episode of “Pitbull’s La Esquina” will be available on itunes the following Monday after it airs.
