Telemundo realigns Entertainment Division.
February 26, 2007
Telemundo announced a strategic reorganization of its Entertainment Division. Don Browne, President of Telemundo, announced the changes as well as the appointments of key senior executives in the newly structured division.
Now under the leadership of Carlos R. Bardasano as Executive Vice President, Entertainment, the division is focused on developing and executing the network’s programming strategy. The realignment includes the appointment of experienced industry executives Mariano Calasso, Director of Entertainment Content; Glenda Pacanins, Director of Entertainment Strategy; and Alonso Gálvez, Director of Entertainment Productions.
Telemundo veterans, Adriana Ibañez and Janét Velez, will assume new roles as Senior Vice President, Programming, and Director of Scheduling, respectively.
In addition, Telemundo’s On-Air Promotions Department has been added to the network’s Entertainment Division, creating a stronger, more fluid integration of Telemundo’s on-air brand image with its programming strategy. Carlos Collazo, an experienced Telemundo veteran, has been named Director of Promotions and Creative Services, reporting to Bardasano. As a result, programming and promotions will now share common strategic objectives and will work together closely to identify synergistic opportunities.
“With Carlos Bardasano at the helm of our Entertainment Department, we’ve refocused our programming strategy to further integrate, unify, and strengthen the Telemundo brand across all fronts,” said Browne. “Carlos and his new team bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will further solidify our position in the market. Their arrival is one more example of the kind of exceptional talent Telemundo is attracting, as we continue to develop and create an industry.”
Entertainment Content
As Director of Entertainment Content, Mariano Calasso will be responsible for monitoring all on-air content, ensuring an overall aesthetic consistency throughout all programming. In addition, Calasso is charged with developing brand strategies for the network’s properties while ensuring consistency within programming and promotions. Calasso was most recently Director of Creative Development for Univision Networks. Previously, Calasso held the post of Vice-President of Non-Fiction Programs at Promofilm, a leading independent Spanish-language television producer, where he was responsible for developing some of Latin America’s most successful show formats such as Telemundo’s “Protagonistas de Novela” and “12 Corazones.”
Entertainment Strategy
Glenda Pacanins has been appointed to Director of Entertainment Strategy and is responsible for developing strategies to boost the network’s performance across programming properties and promotional efforts. In her new post, Pacanins will work closely with Telemundo Studios, as well as with the network’s Operations, Finance, Sales, Digital, Business Affairs, and Public Relations departments. Pacanins joins Telemundo from Ilumina LLC, her own marketing and media consultancy firm specializing in the U.S. Hispanic market. Pacanins previously held key posts at Univision Networks in areas such as strategy planning, program development, entertainment production, and marketing.
Entertainment Productions
Alonso Gálvez has been named Director of Entertainment Productions, managing key daytime and prime time productions, as well as special projects. Gálvez will work closely with Network Sales, leveraging programming strategies in order to generate new and unique sales and branded entertainment opportunities for the network. Gálvez is a fifteen-year industry veteran and was formerly an Executive Producer for Univision, with experience in production, development, and marketing.
Programming and Scheduling
As Senior Vice President of Programming, Adriana Ibañez will oversee the network’s programming grid. Ibañez, who has been with Telemundo Network for almost four years, was previously Senior Vice President of Scheduling and Strategy. In her newly expanded capacity of Director of Scheduling, Janét Velez will manage strategic on-air promotion and programming grid scheduling in an effort to enhance Telemundo’s programming strategy. Velez most recently held the title of Director of Promotions Strategy.
On-Air Promotions
Formerly Director of Primetime Promotions, Carlos Collazo has been promoted to Director of Promotions and Creative Services. In his new capacity, Collazo will also work closely with the Director of Entertainment Content to develop creative on-air campaigns and effective brand-building strategies.
