KVEA takes two Golden Mikes.

Telemundo’s flagship station KVEA in Los Angeles announced it was honored at the 57th Annual Golden Mike Awards held this past Saturday at the Hilton Hotel at Universal City. The Spanish-language television station was recognized with the Radio Television News Association’s Golden Mike Award for Best 30 Minute Newscast “En Contexto” and also took an additional statuette for Best Editing Serious News Story Single Report (“La Otra Campaña” /The Other Campaign (Juan Manuel Martinez).

“We are very proud to receive this award, and thank the Radio Television News Association, as well as our staff, for their ongoing dedication and effort in providing quality news programming to our viewers,” said Manuel Abud, Vice President and General Manager of KVEA. “The newscast has been on the air for a year and in that year the program has received many accolades and viewer compliments. We are honored to receive this award,” added Abud.

KVEA’s “En Contexto” was praised by the judges for its refreshing no-nonsense style and single anchor format. Launched on January 16, 2006, “En Contexto” is a news program with a bold and engaging format that offers thought provoking, in-depth analysis to help Latino viewers better understands the implications to their immediate communities. The program offers intelligent and compelling discussions on some of the most controversial issues affecting KVEA’s viewers, all within the bounds of journalistic integrity.
