Spanish Broadcasting System (“The Company” or “SBS”) announced that the Company’s EL ZOL 95.7 WXDJ-FM radio station serving the Miami market concluded last week its non-stop 95.7 hour radio-thon. Working directly with the Daily Bread Food Bank, a not-for-profit organization serving the South Florida community, EL ZOL began the 95.7 hour radio-thon on Sunday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. and concluded it on Thursday, November 16th at 12:00 p.m., collecting both food and money for the needy in South Florida. Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero, popular hosts of EL ZOL’s “El Vacilón de la Mañana,” which airs Monday through Friday (5:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.), broadcasted their morning radio show from Miami’s Mall of the Americas everyday during the radio-thon.
At the completion of the 95.7 hour radio-thon, EL ZOL and Daily Bread Food Bank collected approximately more than 165,000 pounds of food and groceries, as well as nearly $17,000 in monetary donations.
“The response from the Miami community exceeded all of our expectations. Together, EL ZOL, the Daily Break Food Bank and the members of the Miami community have raised enough food and money to help the needy in South Florida celebrate the holiday season,” said Enrique Santos, host of “El Vacilon de la Mañana. “In the tradition of former EL ZOL crew member, the late Julio Nivar, Jr, a man who dedicated his service life to those of the needy, EL ZOL and “El Vacilón de la Mañana” will continue to work closely with the Miami community to improve the lives of those less fortunate.”
Joe Ferrero added, “This was a very rewarding experience for members of the EL ZOL team. I am so proud of the great people of Miami for the compassion and generosity they displayed during the radio-thon. On behalf of the station, I thank all of those who helped to make EL ZOL’s first 95.7 radio-thon a tremendous success.”
