October 1, 2006
Exactly one year into the channel’s radical re-launch effort, mun2 announced it has delivered a 75% increase in Prime Time viewing vs. one year ago, and has achieved its best quarter ratings performance ever, with substantial growth in its Monday through Sunday total day delivery. As a result, the third quarter gives the network the most viewership in its history, as reported by Nielsen Media Research in their National Hispanic Television Index measurement (NHTI).
“It’s great to continue our ratings uptrend and to break a record with our best quarter ever,” said Alex Pels, General Manager, mun2. “We’re extremely encouraged by the response of our audience as we move into the fourth quarter, where we’ll continue to push the envelope with more innovative mun2 specials and the production kick-off of our new show The Chicas Project.”
The network experienced growth in every single time period for the third quarter compared to a year ago including a plus 75% increase in M-F Prime, plus 86% during Sat Night and plus 140% during Sunday Night. Additionally, in July, the network delivered record-breaking performances for several original programs including 2RSLVJ (87,000 Hispanic viewers 12-34) Barbacoa (66,000 Hispanic viewers 12-34) and 18 & Over (66,000 Hispanic viewers 12-34). These record-setting averages outperformed various key competitors including BET, MTV2, VH1, GAL, FSE and MTV.
In addition, the network’s specials also fared well in the third quarter. Among the specials that propelled mun2 to record-breaking audience deliveries are: Mana’s Video Block (73,000 Hispanic viewers 12-34) – taking top honors as the most watched mun2 program for the quarter – and “mun2 News Special: Immigration” (41,000 Hispanic viewers 12-34). The news special report marked the first installment in a series of quarterly programs to air on the channel that will focus on important issues affecting Latino youth.
