Mega TV announces ‘TU MEGA TV’ Project and the ‘Raúl Alarcón Broadcasting & Communications Scholarsh

Mega TV Channel 22 welcomed South Florida’s academic leaders to a press conference yesterday, September 21st , 2006 at the Grove Isle Hotel and Spa in Coconut Grove to announce Mega TV’s “TU MEGA TV” project and the “Raúl Alarcón Scholarship Award.”

Mega TV’s “TU MEGA TV” project was created to provide young aspiring producers and on-air talent with an opportunity and outlet to begin pursuing a career in the broadcasting field. “TU MEGA TV” allows South Florida’s Mega TV viewers to submit their video productions, stories or talents to a special Mega TV Web site. The winner of the “Best Video” will be showcased on MegaTV’s primetime lineup and will receive “The Raúl Alarcón Broadcasting and Communications Scholarship” for $5,000. Project details will be available on MegaTV’s Web site located at www.mega.tv/tumegatv beginning September 25th.

During the press conference, Mr. Raúl Alarcón, Chairman and CEO of Spanish Broadcasting System, thanked representatives of various local colleges and universities for supporting this leadership effort. Mr. Alarcón commented, “I believe the “TU MEGA TV” project is a wonderful opportunity for the next generation of production and on-air talent to hone their skills and build a foundation in the television industry. It gives me great pride to support the long-term development of the Hispanic broadcasting industry, and I feel this project is a win-win for our students, our educational institutions, and the South Florida community as a whole.

Fred Blevens, Saul R. Szatm, Lewis Alpert, Mercedes Vigon, Jorge Dalmau and Mario Diament from the School of Mass Communication at Florida International University were in attendance as well as St. Thomas University’s Marcela Moyano. Jose Vicente, Joe Pena, and Ronald Fenster represented Miami-Dade College. The School of Communications at the University of Miami was represented by Gonzalo Soruco, Dr. Robert Hosman and Dr. Luis Herrera
