ESPN Deportes celebrates Hispanic Heritage month.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, ESPN Deportes announced it will roll out a new ad campaign as well as exclusive programming. Both the campaign – “Felicidades en el mes de la Herencia Hispana,” which translates to “Happy Hispanic Heritage Month,” – and programming including “Hazaña, el deporte vive”, a documentary-style series providing an enlightening look at the world of Mexican sports, convey ESPN Deportes’ place in the Hispanic community.

“We’re using Hispanic Heritage Month to showcase our heritage within the Latino sports community,” said Lino Garcia, general manager of ESPN Deportes. “We’re proud to celebrate and share stories of our fellow Latinos’ triumphs in the world of sports.”

Coming to life through radio, TV and print, “Felicidades en el mes de Herencia Hispana” features a “Family Sports Tree” detailing the fictional González family’s sports allegiances throughout the generations to the present day, when the youngest follows both Club América (one of Mexico’s most popular first division soccer clubs) and the Dallas Cowboys. The ad ends with the message: “A los que, como nosotros disfrutan lo mejor de ambos mundos. Felicidades en el mes de la Herencia Hispana” (“For those who like us enjoy the best of both worlds. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month.”)

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the network will premiere episodes of “Hazaña, el deporte vive,” a documentary-style series that highlights and explores the rich history and visual icons that make up Mexico’s fascinating past and present in the world of competitive sports. “Hazaña, el deporte vive” will debut on Thursday, October, 5 featuring two one-hour episodes at 9 p.m., ET., and 10 p.m., consecutively. In addition, on Wed., October, 4, the network will also air a one-day marathon on Perfiles, a series of half-hour portraits that narrates the lives of the greatest Latino sports legends. “Perfiles” tells two stories – that of the athlete and that of the man/woman out off the playing field. Some of the athletes to be featured include soccer legends Diego Armando Maradona, Mario Kempes and Jorge Campos; baseball Hall of Famers Luís Aparicio, Juan Marichal and former MLB pitcher Fernando Valenzuela; former boxing champions Julio César Chávez and Wilfredo Gómez; tennis legends Gabriela Sabatini and Guillermo Vilas; Super Bowl-winning kicker Raúl Allegre; and World Golf Hall of Famer Juan Antonio “Chi-Chi” Rodríguez.

“Felicidades en el mes de la Herencia Hispana” was produced by Creative Bubble under the direction of producer Carmen López. Latin Works provided creative direction.
