June 27, 2006
AT&T, Inc. will participate in El Hispano News “Parents Step Ahead” program. El Hispano News “Parents Step Ahead” program is a collaborative initiative with the White House on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, the National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation (NAHPF) and the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). This program is meant to educate, enable and empower Hispanic parents to take a proactive role in the personal and educational development of their children; and make a positive impact in their lives.
“AT&T commends the dedication and commitment elected officials, Texas State Representatives Anchia and Alonzo, have for the Hispanic community; and for educational programs that make a positive impact on all of their constituents. Therefore, in an effort to support their vision, AT&T is sponsoring El Hispano News’ ‘Parents Step Ahead’ Program. By supporting this program, AT&T is fulfilling our corporate obligation to improve the lives of our community members, by enriching the foundation of a child’s life— their parents,” said Martha Rocha, Texas Director-External Affairs.
Lupita Colmenero, El Hispano News Associate Publisher, added “AT&T sponsoring ‘Parents Step Ahead’ is a great validation of what this program is all about. For the Hispanic community to progress, as a whole, parents must be prepared on how to become constructive educators and better role models at home.”
The program will consist of a series of seminars; open to the public, which will be conducted over the course of three events. These events will be held at three different elementary schools in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods. Each seminar will include a complimentary breakfast and small closing lunch.
“Few things can help kids perform better in school than the committed care and involvement of their parents. For that reason I strongly commend El Hispano News and its 2006 “Parents Step Ahead” Program to encourage and empower Dallas area parents to take a proactive role in the personal and educational development of their kids with great allies such as Dallas ISD and other national partners,” said Texas State Representative, Rafael Anchía of Dallas.
To conclude the program, El Hispano News will award the “Parents Step Ahead” Parents of the Year with various prizes at their 20th Anniversary Gala on December 7th, 2006, at the Westin City Center Hotel in downtown Dallas. The winner will be based on 100% seminar attendance and participation; and selected by a committee comprised of local corporate and community leaders.
