Amigos For Kids’ ING Miami Celebrity Domino Night.

Amigos For Kids, a non profit organization that helps abused, abandoned and less fortunate children in South Florida, recently kicked off it’s year -long 15th Anniversary festivities with its signature annual fundraiser, the ING Miami Celebrity Domino Night. This marks ING’s second year as Title sponsor.

Over 2,000 of Miami’s movers and shakers played dominoes and danced the night away with local celebrities and representatives from South Florida’s major media outlets, politicians, city VIPs and community leaders. Celebrities and personalities attending the event included, City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz; Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congressmen Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz Balart; Emilio Gonzalez, Director, US Citizenship and Immigration Services; Grammy Winner Jorge Moreno; FOX 7’s Belkys Nerey; Univision 23’s Alina Mayo Azze; Local 10’s Glenna Milberg; Baseball Hall of Famer, Tony Perez; Latin Model Sissi; State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle; Escandalo TV’s Felipe Viel; Coast 97.3’s Bruce Wayne, Actor Director Miguel Varoni and Telemundo’s Tierra de Pasiones stars Catherine Siachoque and Geraldine Bazan, among many others.

This year, ESPN Deportes, introduced a new component to the evening’s charm, a fun-filled mini-domino tournament, where the winner was awarded five thousand dollars that was donated to Amigos For Kids.

The Silent Auction had hundreds of exciting items including this year’s Domino Effect painting, donated by Artist and Amigos’ Board Member Carlos A. Navarro. The Live Auction featured a Domino Table and basket ball signed by the Miami Heat’s 15 Strong White Hot Team!

The evening’s entertainment highlights included a performance by Jerry Rivera, one of the most popular salseros of the new generation; Carlos Oliva y Los Sobrinos del Juez and Mexican pop singer Jimena all delighted the crowd with their performances.

Guests were provided with dinner-by-the-bite courtesy of many local restaurants and caterers, such as Café Canela, Cascade Restaurant at the Biltmore, Chispa Restaurant & Bar, Café Pilon, Catalina Products, Construction Catering, Edda’s Cake Designs, El Sembrador, El Viajero Cheese, Islas Canarias Grill, Le Basque Catering, Mena Catering, Paellas R Us, Papa John’s Pizza, Schakolad Chocolate Factory, Southern Vines, and Versailles, who also hosted the “after party “ at their Little Havana restaurant offering complementary café con leche & tostadas.

This year’s event is particularly momentous as Amigos recently launched a multi-media public service campaign, “There’s No Excuse For Child Abuse!” The campaign will be airing during the coming year to create awareness of child abuse and neglect in our community.

“We are very proud of this campaign, and the tremendous support from the media,” stated Amigos Chairman/Co-founder Jorge A. Plasencia. “it utilizes powerful images to convey the message of child abuse prevention.”

“We are delighted with the turnout and support at this year’s ING Miami Celebrity Domino Night,” said Rosa Maria Plasencia, Executive Director of Amigos For Kids. “It is thanks to our sponsors and donors that Amigos can continue to increase the number of children we serve in the community, and spread the message of abuse prevention.”
