A Healthcare solution for the Hispanic Community.

As demographics and statistics continue to show growth in the U.S. Hispanic population, the amount of Latinos without access to health insurance is increasing at a disproportionate rate. The U.S. Census Bureau revealed that the amount of uninsured Hispanics increased to 13.7 million in 2004, and this figure does not reflect the number of Hispanics who were not counted.

It is an alarming number, especially considering the fact that Hispanics account for only 14% of the total population of the United States, but represent more than 29% of the 46 million who do not have access to health insurance nor to a prescription drug coverage program. In response to this situation, many private companies are looking for ways to help the Hispanic community gain access to health insurance coverage. Pfizer is doing its part through its patient assistance program Pfizer Helpful Answers.

“We are committed to improving access to our medications for patients without prescription drug coverage. In 2005, the Pfizer Helpful Answers program helped 2.1 million people get 14.9 million drug prescriptions”, said Dr. Raúl Perea-Henze of Pfizer.

Pfizer Helpful Answers is a family of programs that helps people without prescription coverage save money on many Pfizer medicines, no matter their age or income. People with limited incomes may even qualify to get their Pfizer medicines for free. The program provides real help for people who are in real need.

“Without this plan, I may not have been able to control my diabetes and stay healthy. I am very grateful for the benefits that it provides me”, said Leticia Rodríguez, a program member.
