The Sun-Times News Group (“STNG”) and La Raza Newspaper announced a news gathering alliance that will add Hispanic community-focused content, in both English and Spanish, to the recently launched STNG Wire news service beginning on May 1.
STNG Wire, started in February 2006, is a Web-based, 24-hour news and headline service used by major Chicago media outlets. Local subscribers include: CBS2 News; NBC5 News; ABC 7 Chicago; WBBM Newsradio 780 and WLS 890 AM, among others.
“La Raza’s content will enhance our subscribers’ ability to report on significant events and developments within the Latino community,” said Fred Lebolt, Vice President of New Media for STNG. “By providing Hispanic-focused news in both languages, we believe STNG Wire will provide even greater value to our English and Spanish-language subscribers by adding a new dimension to their coverage.”
“With this alliance with STNG Wire, La Raza can provide news content to mainstream media outlets that might not otherwise be aware of important developments for the Hispanic community. This is an exciting development for Chicago-area Hispanic residents,” added Jorge Mederos, Editor in Chief of La Raza.
Under the agreement, La Raza will have the opportunity to introduce STNG Wire to Hispanic media outlets. Robert J. Armband, Publisher & CEO of La Raza Newspaper, added, “In just a few months, STNG Wire has established itself as an invaluable resource for major media outlets in Chicago. We expect that with the addition of Hispanic-oriented news from La Raza, Hispanic media outlets across Chicago will become active users of STNG Wire content.”
