Telemundo coverage of ‘Encrucijada Migratoria’.

This Monday, May 1st, Telemundo will broadcast the most complete coverage of the nationwide rallies and economic boycott planned for May 1st.

Under the name “Encrucijada Migratoria” (Immigration Crossroads), Telemundo’s coverage will include news updates on how the rallies are being organized in different regions throughout the nation as well as special reports from the areas where the rallies are taking place. To keep the Spanish-language audience more informed, viewers can also tune in to their local newscasts to find out what is happening in their region.

The following is a breakdown on what each network show will offer on Monday:

“Cada dia con Maria Antonieta” (7am/6c)

Telemundo’s morning show will present news updates on how Hispanics throughout the nation are getting ready for the rallies taking place in the afternoon. Award-winning journalists Maria Antonieta Collins and Jose Diaz-Balart will speak to representatives from various groups in favor and against the reform. On Tuesday, May 2, the show will present an overview of the events.

“Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste” (5pm/4c)

The news magazine program will provide coast to coast extensive news coverage on the rallies and the economic boycott with news reports from Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Chicago. News correspondents will also offer special reports from Mexico and the US-Mexico border. Moreover, “Al Rojo Vivo” will feature a news story on the economic power and impact that Hispanics represent to this nation.

“Noticiero Telemundo” (6:30pm/5:30c)

To offer more extensive news coverage, the network news will air live from Los Angeles, California, where thousands of immigrants will be participating as part of the national boycott and rallies. The coverage will also include reports from other cities across the country. A special report will present a perspective of the national boycott impact from the business owner’s perspective, presenting anti-boycott demonstrations or anti-immigration reform activities, as well.

“Sin Fronteras” (Sundays 7pm/6c)

As a preview to Monday’s coverage, “Sin Fronteras” will present a special edition this Sunday, May 30 dedicated to the immigration issues. In a story by co-anchor Ana Patricia Candiani, the news magazine will feature Francisco Cuevas, a Telemundo reporter who came illegally to this country 22 years ago. Candiani took the route he had taken back then from Tijuana to Los Angeles and will talk about how his colleague, who first worked washing dishes and then became an award-winning journalist. Also on “Sin Fronteras,” Reporter Mariela Salgado presents “Mujeres Abusadas,” the story of many women who rather suffer in silence the domestic violence than reporting their abusive husbands to the authorities because they are afraid to be deported.

Telemundo is also publishing daily news regarding this subject on its website www.telemundo.com. On the site, viewers can find daily news in the section “Enterate.” At the same time, several of the network’s stars are sharing their points of view on their personal blogs on the website. In addition, there is a message board for users to express their opinions and to participate in a poll by answering the question “Do you think an agreement will be reached to legalize illegal immigrants?” found in the “Tu decides” section.
