In this year of record sales for some, record losses for others, and—not coincidentally—record sales incentives, the automotive executives we surveyed are increasingly mixed in their sense of a wide variety of issues. While there are a few constants, such as the belief that consumers want quality and safety, and some obvious changes—a big jump in the number of those who think hybrid sales will dramatically increase —executives are often sharply divided depending on their region and industry segment. The prevailing mood is uncertainty. This is a new phenomenon.
