TeleFutura’s ‘Escándalo de Año Nuevo’ delivers the ratings.

The TeleFutura Network announced that “Escándalo de Año Nuevo”, the New Year’s Eve special edition of its popular daytime talk and entertainment show “Escándalo TV,” delivered its highest performance ever with an impressive 40% increase among Hispanic Households compared to last year’s broadcast, according to the Nielsen Hispanic Television Index (NHTI). The show aired live from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm ET on December 31, 2005.
This is the fourth year of the popular New Year’s Eve special on TeleFutura, which garnered a 5.3 rating among Hispanic Households nationwide versus the previous year’s 3.9 rating. In addition, the special delivered an impressive 873,000 total Hispanic viewers (P2+), a 22% increase over last year’s 713,000 viewers. “Escándalo de Año Nuevo” also delivered 44% more Hispanic Adults 18-34 and 21% more Hispanic Adults 18-49 than Telemundo’s programming in the same time period.
In addition, according to the Nielsen Hispanic Station Index (NHSI), the show nabbed the number one slot in Spanish-language television in key local markets, including New York with an impressive 11.7 average Hispanic Household rating, soundly beating out Telemundo’s 3.4 HH rating during the same time period. In Los Angeles, the program garnered a significant 10.3 average Hispanic Household rating and delivered the most Hispanic Adult 18-49 viewers in its time period with 157,000 versus Telemundo’s 4.5 Household rating and 89,000 Hispanic Adult 18-49 viewers. In Chicago, it obtained the highest average Hispanic Household rating at 8.5, 42% higher than Telemundo’s 6.0.
“We’re delighted so many viewers turned out to watch the star-studded celebration on ‘Escándalo de Año Nuevo,’ making it our most successful edition yet,” said Bert Medina, Senior Vice President and Operating Manager of TeleFutura. “Our unprecedented ratings success demonstrates that our programming engages Hispanic viewers by providing an alternative not found on the other networks.”
The 7-hour high-energy special which was broadcast live from Miami and via satellite from New York, Los Angeles, Mexico and Puerto Rico was a non-stop music-filled, celebrity extravaganza with 53 musical performances. The ever-popular Charytín, her co-hosts Marisa del Portillo and Felipe Viel and special guest Mexican novela star Maribel Guardia, bid farewell to 2005 with visits from some of the biggest names in Latin entertainment. Guest appearances included Reggaetón stars Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen and Wisin & Yandel; such popular singers as Christian Castro, Gloria Trevi, Mariana Seoane, and Anais; and novela stars Victoria Ruffo, Ninel Conde and Jorge Salinas.
